About Dr Maartens
Dr Maartens completed high school at Fairbairn College in 1999 and graduated from UCT Medical School in 2005. She was placed at Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg for her internship, during which she rotated through paediatrics, internal medicine and general surgery. She spent the second year in surgery and a third year in casualty.
During this time, Dr Maartens completed training for BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and Basic Surgical Skills and Wound Management.
When she moved back to Cape Town in 2009, Dr Maartens spent 18 months working in the trauma unit at Groote Schuur Hospital followed by 2 years at the only public ASCI (Acute Spinal Cord Injury) Unit in South Africa. As part of her Continuing Professional Development, she completed the Acute Spical Cord Management Course (2011). In 2012 Dr Maartens presented her ASCI research at the SASCA Congress and that same year attended MPS ethics conferences.
In 2013, Dr Maartens elected to venture into private practice as a General Practitioner and trained in Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Filler Injection Techniques. Dr Maartens contunues to further her CPD with related specialist training.
